2010-11 Basketball Schedules Set
Coach Redmond, Coach Vaughn

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Lincoln University men’s and women’s basketball teams will each open the season with four non-conference games before entering a 22-game Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association conference slate as the schedules were released Thursday.

The men will open the season with a familiar foe in Central State on Nov. 13 in Wilberforce, Ohio. Last season on Dec. 22, the Blue Tigers nearly pulled the upset, as a ranked Marauder squad entered Jason Gym following a lengthy road trip and the game came down to the final shot, one in which Lincoln missed at the buzzer allowing CSU to take the slim 59-58 victory. The Marauders finished the season with a 22-6 record and reached the NCAA Division II Tournament. CSU will also enter the season with a new head coach, as Doug Lewis left his post to take the head job at Northern Michigan.

The Blue Tigers will then enjoy three straight home games as they will welcome University of Illinois-Springfield, Newman and Avila to Jefferson City to conclude the rest of November. UIS went 11-14, 7-11 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference a season ago and they matched up with three similar opponents that LU also played against, as they defeated Missouri S&T in two overtimes, 115-114 and also took down Central State, 80-62. Rockhurst, a team the Blue Tigers defeated early in the season, defeated UIS by ten, 68-58. NU took both games from the Blue Tigers in the Heartland Conference last year and Avila, an NAIA institution, went 10-19 last year. LU will then make their return to a full MIAA conference schedule on Dec. 1 when they will make their longest trip of the season in conference out to Hays, Kan., to battle Fort Hays State. LU matched up against just one MIAA team a season ago, as Missouri Western State defeated the Blue Tigers, 89-58, in the Missouri Western Hillyard Classic.

On the women’s side, the Blue Tigers will host a home classic at Jason Gym that will take place Nov. 12 and 13, with University of Missouri-St. Louis, Harris Stowe and Rockhurst set to attend the classic. Lincoln will face Rockhurst in their season opener on Nov. 12, as the two teams matched up twice last year, with Rockhurst winning on their home floor, 68-57, before LU returned the favor two months later with a 66-60 overtime victory. The OT win marked 10 wins on the season at that point for LU, which was the first time the women had reached 10 wins in a season since the 2004-05 campaign. UMSL and LU will match up on Nov. 13 to complete the classic. UMSL took the only matchup between the teams last year, a 76-60 victory in St. Louis.

LU will remain at home for their final two non-conference games, as University of Illinois-Springfield and Newman will come to Jefferson City to round out the final games in November. UIS went 3-24 and 0-18 in the GLVC a season ago, dropping a pair of games against teams LU also faced in 2009-10 in Missouri S&T (76-57) and Maryville (71-67). The Blue Tigers swept Maryville last year and dropped their only game against Missouri S&T. LU split with Newman last year, as the Jets came back to defeat the Blue Tigers in Wichita, 71-66, but LU came back to win at home, 67-51. LU will hit the road for the first time when they enter MIAA play at Fort Hays State on Dec. 1. The Blue Tigers faced just one MIAA team last year, Truman State in Kirksville, as the Lady Bulldogs came away with the 70-62 win.
