NEW ORLEANS – Seventeen Lincoln University track and field athletes earned 27 All-America awards for their performances this past weekend at the Outdoor Championships as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday. In order to receive All-America status, athletes must have finished in the top eight in each event from the championships.
On the men’s side, Sabiel Anderson collected his All-American status in the 400-meter hurdles after finishing third and also participating in the 4x400-meter relay team that finished fourth. Steve Banton earned his the same way Anderson did, as he was also part of the 4x400-meter relay squad, as well as placing in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing second. Kimour Bruce pulled out yet another first, this time in the 100-meter dash, while also earning All-American status in being part of the fourth-best 4x100-meter relay team. Dwain Bryden, Mandela Clifford and Gavin Terrelonge joined Bruce in being named All-Americans from the 4x100-meter relay team, while Jean Nougues and Rupert Smith joined Anderson and Banton as All-Americans on the 4x400-meter relay squad.
On the women’s side, Racquel Anderson and Anna Kay Campbell started off the championships strong, finishing in first and second respectively in the long jump to claim All-America honors, while Campbell also earned honors running a leg in the second-place 4x400-meter relay team. Nyoka Cole collected four All-American certificates, placing eighth in both the 100-and 200-meter dashes, while also claiming a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash and second-place in the 4x400-meter relay. Michelle Cumberbatch also was part of the second-place 4x400-meter relay foursome and she received All-America status in the 400-meter hurdles by placing first and breaking the meet record time. Semoy Hackett added three more All-America certificates to her name, after finishing first in both the 100-and 200-meter dashes, which included a 17-year old meet record that she broke in the 200, while also helping the 4x100-meter relay finish first. Sudian Davis, Kirlene Roberts and Tia Rolle also received All-America status for their participation in the 4x100. Keniesha Jones helped complete the 4x400 foursome of Campbell, Cole and Cumberbatch to earn her All-America status.
