CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Semoy Hackett and Michelle Cumberbatch set meet records, while Kimour Bruce and the women’s 4x100-meter relay team took home titles at the Outdoor Championships Saturday.
Despite two individual titles from Hackett and a title from Cumberbatch, the women fell just short of taking home the national title to Angelo State, as the Blue Tigers finished second with 73 points to Angelo State’s 87. While on the men’s side, Lincoln finished fifth with 34 points, as St. Augustine’s cruised to the title with 82 total points.
Hackett, now a ten-time national champion, claimed her first title of the afternoon as she teamed with Kirlene Roberts, Sudian Davis and Tia Rolle to take the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 44.73 seconds, besting Abilene Christian’s second-best time of 45.19. Hackett kept the momentum going to later take the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.33 and then set the meet record in the 200-meter dash taking home her third title of the day with a time of 22.75 seconds. Hackett’s time broke the old mark set by Chandra Sturrup back in 1993 by a tenth of a second (22.85).
Cumberbatch wasn’t to be outdone, as she set the meet record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.85, to edge out Angelo State’s Aisha Adams (56.93) to take home the crown. Lynnsey Dailey held the old record of 57.18 set back in 2006.
In addition to those 40 combined points, Nyoka Cole chipped in seven of her own in three different individual events. In the 400-meter dash, she placed fourth with a time of 54.35 and finished in eight place in both the 100-meter dash (12.32) and the 200-meter dash (24.29).
The women concluded the championships with a second-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, as Cumberbatch, Cole, Anna Kay Campbell and Keniesha Jones ended up with a time of 3:40.25, while Angelo State took the top spot with a time of 3:38.88. The Blue Tigers tallied 55 points on Saturday, as Racquel Anderson and Campbell started off the championships placing first and second respectively in the long jump.
Bruce continued to improve his time in the 100-meter dash to where it finally paid off, as he took home the title with a time of 10.37 to edge out Cal State-Los Angeles’ Damien White’s time of 10.46.
The Blue Tigers also performed well in the 400-meter hurdles, as Steve Banton and Sabiel Anderson finished in second and third respectively with times of 49.35 and 49.82 to collect 14 team points. Host Johnson C. Smith’s Leford Green raced to the top spot with a time of 48.67.
The men also collected points in the 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay. In the 4x100, the foursome of Mandela Clifford, Gavin Terrelonge, Dwain Bryden and Bruce grabbed the fourth-best time of 40.57 to add five points. In the 4x400, Jean Nougues, Anderson, Banton and Rupert Smith also collected the fourth-best time of 3:09.50.
Weather Postpones Most of Day Two Events at Track Outdoor Championships
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Due to weather throughout the day, only a few of the preliminary rounds were completed Friday at the Outdoor Track Championships.
The championships are set to resume at 10 a.m. eastern time Saturday with the men’s javelin throw. 29 events are scheduled for the final day.
Anna Kay Campbell finished in 11th overall in the heptathlon with 5,035 points. Angelo State finished one-two in the heptathlon to overtake the Blue Tigers for the top spot with 27 points, while Lincoln remains in second with 18.
On the men’s side, the Blue Tigers have yet to have an event with a participant, so they remain without any points, while Central Missouri holds the early lead with 22 points.

Anderson, Campbell Help Lead Women's Track to Top Spot After First Day of Outdoor Championships
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Lincoln University women’s track and field team needed just one event to hold the top spot after the first day of the Outdoor Championships Thursday evening.
In the women’s long jump, Anna Kay Campbell came in with the top mark, but teammate Racquel Anderson saved her best distance for when it mattered the most, pulling off the top leap of 6.08-meters, which also tied Campbell for the top spot, but Anderson took the title, as her jump occurred with less wind. With both finishing first and second, they combined for 18 points to give the Blue Tigers a two-point lead over Queens (N.C.).
The women’s and men’s 400-meter relay teams each grabbed the top time in the prelims, with the women posting a time of 45.05 seconds and the men with a time of 39.88.
Nyoka Cole qualified for the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.99 that will put her in the fourth position for the finals. Semoy Hackett and Cole landed in first and third respectively with times of 11.27 and 11.70 to hold solid positions for the final run in the 100-meter dash.
Kimour Bruce moved up to grab the top time in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.33, while teammate Dwain Bryden was beat out by two hundredths of a second for the eighth and final qualifying spot.
Michelle Cumberbatch landed right in the middle of the prelims in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.15 to land in fourth.
Steve Banton and Sabiel Anderson performed well in the 400-meter hurdle prelims, with Banton grabbing first with a time of 50.30 and Anderson with a time of 51.08.
Rounding out the first day for Lincoln, Campbell holds the second spot overall in the heptathlon, as after four events, she has tallied 3,365 points. The heptathlon will begin things on Friday, as the first part of the day will feature final events, while the night events will feature preliminary rounds.
Fans will be able to follow the action of the championships two ways, both through a live webcast, as well as live results throughout.

Women Look to Hurdle Angelo State, While Men Continue to Gain Ground Heading Into Outdoor Track and Field Championships
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Lincoln University women’s track and field team will look to make their move when it matters the most, while the men’s team will look to continue their climb to catch the teams in front of them when the Blue Tigers open the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships this Thursday, May 27 and will conclude on Saturday, May 29 at the Irwin Belk Complex on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University.
Lincoln will bring a host of top times to the track, as the women alone have five top times/marks spread throughout the events.
Semoy Hackett will look to again provide big points for the Blue Tigers, as she holds the top time in the 100-and-200-meter dashes, as well as being part of the top 4x100-meter relay in the nation. Hackett’s time of 11.30 seconds in the 100 just edges out St. Augustine’s Barbara Pierre who holds a time of 11.39. Both Hackett and Pierre set the meet record and Division II all-time mark in the 100 last year with a time of 11.18, with Hackett taking the title by hundredths of a second. Hackett has a bigger gap in the 200, with a time of 23.07, while Adams State’s Indira Spence is the next closest with a time of 23.51. Hackett then will team with Kirlene Roberts, Nyoka Cole and Tia Rolle in the 4x100, as the foursome holds the top time of 44.65, over a second better than Abilene Christian’s best mark (45.70).
The Blue Tigers will look for additional points in both the 100 and 200 outside of Hackett’s points, as Rolle holds the 11th-best time in the 100 (11.76), while Cole enters with the 17th-best time of 11.93. In the 200, Cole sits in the sixth spot with a time of 23.90, as three other Blue Tigers will look for important points behind Cole, including Anna Kay Campbell (12th, 24.24), Rolle (16th, 24.35) and Sudian Davis (19th, 24.44).
Cole remains the top threat in the 400-meter dash, holding the top time of 54.46, while Claflin’s Keyona Smalls is a close second clocking a time of 54.54. Michelle Cumberbatch comes in with the sixth-best time of 54.93. Keniesha Jones rounds out the Blue Tigers in the 400 with a time of 55.99 to land in 21st overall.
Cumberbatch will also have a good chance to contribute points in the 400-meter hurdles, as she will enter with the third-best time of 59.17, as Angelo State’s Aisha Adams holds the top mark of 57.94. Jones will look to move up to add more points in the hurdles, as she comes in with the 14th-best time of 1:01.06. Jones and Cumberbatch will also be half of the 4x400-meter relay that also includes Davis and Cole and they easily hold the top time of 3:38.55, nearly three seconds better than Nebraska Omaha (3:41.20).
Campbell remains one of the top keys for the Blue Tigers in a quest for another national championship, as not only will she look to gain points in the 200 and possibly in the relay as a reserve, but in three other key events. In the high jump, Campbell holds the 15th-best leap of 1.70-meters, but isn’t far off the pace, as Ashland’s Abby Kacsandi has the top mark of 1.79, which is also shared by UC-San Diego’s Linda Rainwater. Campbell will look to collect big points in both the long jump and heptathlon, as she holds the mark to beat in the long jump with a distance of 6.37, with Fort Valley’s Antionetter Oglesby sitting in second with a mark of 6.31. Racquel Anderson also has a solid chance for points in the long jump, as she will enter the championships with the sixth-best distance of 6.05. Kimberly Hodges may also contribute in the same event, as her leap of 12.09 ranks 12th overall. Campbell rounds out her events in the heptathlon, where her 5,245 points is good for fourth overall, while Angelo State’s Adams will be tough to beat with a point total of 5,795.
Lincoln remains the No. 2 team in the rankings entering the championships, trailing Angelo State. Angelo State holds the top spot with 265 points, while Lincoln has gained over the weeks to close the gap to 20, entering with 245. Grand Valley State sits in third with 212 points, but may be a threat, as they enter the championships with the most entries of 25.
On the men’s side, Kimour Bruce is in good shape in the 100-meter dash, as he comes in third with a time of 10.39, as Abilene Christian’s Desmond Jackson holds the top time of 10.31. Dwain Bryden remains on the radar in the 100, as he has a chance to collect points coming in with the eighth-best time of 10.46. Bryden and Bruce will also look to gain points in the 200-meter dash, as Bryden sits in 19th with a time of 21.27, while Bruce is right behind in 20th with a time of 21.29. St. Augustine’s Josh Scott holds the top mark of 20.68.
Steve Banton sits in a solid second position in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.23, but it may be tough to catch host Johnson C. Smith’s Leford Green, as he holds the top mark of 49.46. Sabiel Anderson will also have a chance to collect points, as he is right behind Banton’s time in third of 52.15.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Mandela Clifford, Gavin Terrelonge, Bryden and Bruce continue to lead the way with the top time of 40.13, but Angelo State is within range, holding the second-best time of 40.63.
The 4x400-meter relay foursome of Jean Nougues, Anderson, Anthony Celestin and Rupert Smith also will have a solid chance to collect points, as they come in with the fifth-best time of 3:09.65, with St. Augustine’s relay holding the top mark at 3:05.27.
The men moved up to the eighth spot in the latest USTFCCCA rankings, having been in the ninth and tenth slots throughout the outdoor season. St. Augustine leads the way with 210 points, with Adams State five points off the pace. Lincoln enters the championships with 103 total points, just two points behind Chico State for seventh.
Fans will be able to follow the action of the championships two ways, both through a live webcast, as well as live results throughout.
