BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Tia Rolle, Semoy Hackett and the women’s 4x400-meter relay team all took home titles to help pace the Lincoln University track and field teams at the Billy Hayes Invitational that concluded Saturday.
On the women’s side, Anna Kay Campbell tied Bianca Stuart with a leap of 6.07-meters in the long jump to tie for first, but Stuart won the tiebreaker due to wind. Both tallied their longest jumps of the day on their first tries. Campbell also performed well in the javelin throw, finishing seventh with a toss of 30.47-meters.
Tia Rolle improved on her preliminary placement of second in the 100-meter dash, to take the top spot in the final run with a time of 11.93 seconds. Kirlene Roberts and Shanna Kay Wright finished in eighth and ninth, respectively in the 100, with Roberts coming across with a time of 12.38, to Wright’s 13.35.
The 200-meter dash belonged to the Blue Tigers, as four placed in the top-five with Semoy Hackett claiming first with a time of 23.07, nearly beating teammate Nyoke Cole by a full second (24.00) as she finished in second. Campbell landed in third with a time of 24.39, while Rolle grabbed fifth coming across with a time of 24.45.
Michelle Cumberbatch paced Lincoln in the 400-meter dash racing across fourth with a time of 55.54, while Keniesha Jones was right behind with a time of 55.99 to place fifth. Indiana State’s Erica Moore raced to the top spot with a time of 52.60. Cumberbatch moved up a few spots to place second in the 400-meter hurdles after a time of 1:00.04, while Deserea Moore, running unattached, took the event with a time of 58.76. Jones also moved up a spot to finish fourth with a time of 1:01.45.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Roberts, Hackett, Cole and Rolle cruised to first with a time of 44.65, besting Kentucky State’s relay team by over two seconds (46.83).
On the men’s side, Kimour Bruce held the top time in the 100-meter dash after the preliminary round, but was edged out by Ryan Shields’ time of 10.41 seconds in the finals to place second with a time of 10.47. Gavin Terrelonge wasn’t far off the pace with a time of 10.62 to place fourth.
Bruce ran his way into the top-five in the 200-meter dash, placing fifth with a time of 21.57, while Shields once again took the top spot in the 200 with a time of 20.80.
Lincoln will now prepare for the 2010 Outdoor National Championships that will take place Thursday, May 27 and run through Saturday, May 29 at the Irwin Belk Complex in Charlotte, North Carolina.
