Blue Stuffs White, 37-21, in Blue Tiger Spring Game
Morris Henderson
Morris Henderson tries to break through a few tackles during the spring game.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The defense set the tone early in the 2010 Spring Game that took place Friday night at Dwight T. Reed Stadium and continued with the pressure, as the defense (blue) defeated the offense (white), 37-21.

Following a few rushing plays that were turned away, a muffed pitch was turned into points by the blue team, as Torrence Malone picked up the fumble and returned it 20-yards for the touchdown giving the defense the early 7-0 lead.

While the blue team struck first, the white team had several key rushing plays that would eventually turn into points.

Alex Campbell busted through the line and scampered 50-yards for a touchdown to even the score, as the white team attempted a two-point try, but it was sniffed out by the blue team.

With momentum beginning to mount for the white team, they took advantage, as Morris Henderson broke off a 30-yard run to pay dirt to put white ahead for good, 14-7.

The white team then capped touchdowns that were scored after the blue team had denied them on several attempts, Campbell just broke the plane from one-yard out to expand the lead to 21-7.

The defense, however, won based on points generated on several other key stats.

The blue team tallied three stops on third down for nine points and also forced three turnovers for a total of 21 points to end up beating the white team, 37-21.

Campbell led the rushing attack for the Blue Tigers, rushing nine times for 78 yards to go along with two scores, while Henderson, behind that 30-yard run, finished with 43 yards on four carries. Maurice Woodard tallied 24 yards on five attempts, while Gary Gandy and Sean Foster each tallied double-figures in rushing yards, with Gandy chewing up 16 yards on four carries and Foster adding 10 yards on five attempts.

Foster completed two passes in six attempts for 19 yards, with Henderson grabbing one pass for 15 yards and Gordon Everett with the other reception for four yards.

On defense, Joe Pelton, Devin Mack and Chris Pace all forced fumbles, while Malone, Mack and Jerrod Moore collected fumble recoveries. Mack, Cecil Frison and Jerrod Moore led the blue team with four tackles apiece. O’Hara Fluellen, Michael Lloyd and Brandon Green recorded three tackles each, while Victor Streeter, Pace and Donte Carter tallied two apiece.
