Softball Opens Heartland Conference Action Today Against St. Edward's

AUSTIN, Tex. – Having played just two games nearly a month into the season, the Lincoln University softball team will open their Heartland Conference slate with a doubleheader against St. Edward’s Friday.
St. Edward’s (11-10) has already played 21 games, having lost their last three games, after getting swept by Texas A&M Kingsville (2-0, 8-3) and the final game against Abilene Christian (1-0). The Hilltoppers are 5-1 at home so far this season, with their lone loss coming in their last home game against Abilene Christian.
Last season, St. Edward’s took three of four from the Blue Tigers in Jefferson City, with Lincoln taking the second game of the first doubleheader, 6-3.
Three players with at least 12 at-bats are currently hitting over .400 for the Hilltoppers, with Meagen Bailey leading the way with a .464 batting average and 10 RBI. Lexi Stephens is hitting at a .433 clip, while Ally Valdez has had just 12 at-bats, but is currently holding a .417 batting average to go along with two home runs and four RBI.
Lincoln (0-2) will look to get the offense going, after collecting just two hits in their first doubleheader. The Blue Tigers will face Diana Cezeaux, who leads the way with a 2.87 ERA, to go along with a 5-3 record in 53.2 innings pitched. Paige Sandahl isn’t far behind, having tallied 41.1 innings, a 3.22 ERA and a 5-4 record.
