Smith, Washington, Norris Land on All-Heartland Conference Teams

WACO, Tex. – Three Lincoln University women’s basketball players landed on the All-Heartland Conference Teams as announced by the conference office Wednesday. The All-Heartland Conference teams are selected by the conference’s head women’s basketball coaches.

 

Senior Stacey Smith (F,  Lauderhill, FL) landed on the first-team, while sophomore Quenita Washington (G, Dallas, TX) was named to the second-team and rounding out the Blue Tigers was senior Ashley Norris (F, Forney, TX), who was named to the honorable mention squad.

 

Smith capped her regular season by being named Player of the Week this past week for the second time this season. Smith played in all 26 regular season games, starting 25, while leading the team in minutes played per game (36.8), rebounds per contest (9), blocks (32), steals (58), while also adding 33 three-pointers and 54 assists.

 

Washington leads the team in three-pointers made with 61 and is second on the team in points per game (13.7), while adding 28 assists, a block, and 26 steals in playing every game this season.

 

Norris, the only Blue Tiger that was named to the All-Heartland Conference team a season ago on the second-team and was also named Newcomer of the Year, leads the team in points per game (14.1), and is second on the team in rebounds per game (5), minutes per game (34.8) and has the best field goal percentage on the team for most attempts taken, having made 139-of-318 (43.7).

 

 

The Lincoln University women’s basketball team will be in action this Thursday, Mar. 4 in the quarterfinal round of the Heartland Conference Tournament against St. Edward’s with tipoff set for 12 p.m. inside Bill Greehey Arena on the campus of St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Tex.
