AUSTIN, TX. – After just returning home from a road trip to Texas, the Lincoln University baseball team is back in the Lone Star State set to take-on Heartland Conference foe St. Edward’s this Saturday afternoon.
St. Edward’s (1-2, 1-2 HC) lost a couple of close games to start the season against Newman, dropping game one, 7-6, before also falling in the second half of the doubleheader, 8-7. The Hilltoppers did rebound in the final game of the series, pounding out 13 runs to pull out the 13-9 victory.
Adam Wolotira had the biggest impact in the opening series, batting .500, with a home run and four RBI, while Jeremy Houser and Daniel Rufini each added three RBI apiece.
Last season, St. Edward’s took five-of-seven from the Blue Tigers, with Lincoln taking the second game of a doubleheader at St. Edward’s and taking the final game of a doubleheader in Jefferson City. In three of the losses, Lincoln was within striking distance, dropping one by a run, another by two runs and the third one by three runs.
Gus Durst and Chris Pfau each started all three games against Incarnate Word, posting .300 batting averages, while Kyle Henke played in one game, going one-for-three to lead the team with a .333 batting average. Of the seven runs Lincoln (0-3, 0-3 HC) scored against the Cards, only four came across as an RBI, with Cie Arell the only one with multiple runners batted in with two.
Lincoln and St. Edward’s will open up a four-game series Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. CST. The two teams will then play another doubleheader on Sunday with first pitch slated for 11 a.m. Fans will be able to follow all of the action through St. Edward’s live stats and audio broadcast at the link below.
