Football Adds 27 Newcomers to Program
Coach Cochran Sidelines

The Lincoln University football team announced Thursday the addition of 27 new players that will join the football program for the 2010 season. The complete list is below:

Cody Blankenship

 5’10”, 165, Defensive Back

(Central HS /Springfield, MO)

Coach Cochran - “Cody possesses great quickness and was all over the field for his high school team.“

Blankenship was his team’s Defensive Player of the Year for the last three years.  He was an All-Conference honorable mention player as a junior and senior.  Cody also recorded 28 tackles in one game.

 

Josh Blanton

5’11”, 175, Kicker

(Weatherford HS/ Weatherford, TX)

Coach Cochran - “Josh will fill a major need for us in the kicking game.”

Blanton was voted Parker County First-Team All-County Kicker in 2009, as well Special Teams MVP by his team during his senior season.  In 2008 and 09, he was selected to the All-District Academic Team.  His biggest kick came in overtime to beat the cross county rival in a down pour.  

 

Joseph Bohanna

6’2”, 170, Wide Receiver

(Douglass HS/ Memphis, TN)

Coach Cochran - “Joseph will add much needed speed and athleticism to our receiver corp.”

Bohanna was a First-Team All-League and All-District receiver as a senior.  He caught 38 passes for 700 yards and 10 touchdowns.  He was an alternate for the Liberty Auto Zone All-Star Game.  He also was a letter winner in track and field.

 

Mitchell Cochran

6’3”, 220, Defensive Line

(Alton HS/ Alton, IL)

Coach Cochran - “Mitchell will add major depth to our front four and his quickness off the ball will be an added bonus”

Mitchell was Second-Team All-Conference in 2009.  He recently finished second in the regionals for wrestling.

 

Andre Coleman

6’2”, 190, Wide Receiver

(Highlands HS/ Salt Lake City, UT)

Coach Cochran - “Andre has a great combination of size and speed. He will make a lot of plays for us next season. He is also very comfortable with our offensive system”

Andre was Second-Team All-Region.  Defensively, he had two INT’s and 41 Tackles.  Coleman was also high school teammates with QB recruit Mason Keller.

 

Cecil Frison

6’4”, 245, Defensive Line

(Ole Miss/ Hamilton HS/ Memphis, TN)

Coach Cochran - “Cecil will provide us with experience to go with our young team. He possesses great size and athleticism off the edge; we are truly blessed to have his athleticism.”

Cecil is currently enrolled at LU.  He was a part of one of the top recruiting classes in Ole Miss history. In high school, he was an All-Region selection who was rated as the No. 18 weak side defensive end in the nation by Rivals.com, and No. 10 player in Tennessee by Rivals.com. He had 65 tackles, 19 TFL's and 11 QB sacks as a junior, while also adding 22 receptions from the tight end position.  He was credited with 52 tackles, 22 TFLs and 8 QB sacks as a senior.

 

Derrick Gammill

6’2” 255, Offensive Line

(Hillcrest HS/ Springfield, MO)

Coach Cochran - “Derrick is a very skilled offensive lineman that will be given the opportunity to make an impact.”

Derrick was a First-Team All-Conference lineman, as well as a Second-Team All –District performer.  He was elected as the 2009 Lineman of the Year. He also received 2009 Springfield Quarterbacks Club Outstanding Senior Award to go along with the 2009 Outstanding Lifter Award. 

 

Jacquan Guion

6’1”, 175, Wide Receiver

(O’Fallon HS/ O’Fallon, IL)

Coach Cochran - “Jacquan possesses great speed and the ability to put the ball in the end zone any time he touches the ball.”

Jacquan averaged over 23 yards per catch. He was a two-year starter at defensive back and wide receiver.  Jacquan was an honorable mention All-Area and All-Conference performer at O’Fallon.  He also returned 13 punts and averaged over 17 yards a return.

 

Nick Halterman

6’2”, 180, Wide Receiver

(Blue Springs HS/ Blue Springs, MO)

Coach Cochran - “Nick is a receiver that runs great routes and knows what to do with the ball when he touches it. He comes from one of the top programs in Missouri and we are very excited to have signed him.”

Nick was the second leading receiver for the Blue Springs High School Wildcats behind the top receiver that signed with the University of Kansas. Halterman scored seven TDs and gained 376 yards on only 14 receptions, while also averaging 26.8 yards per catch and showed a production value of a touchdown for every two catches made. 

 

Xavier Hicks

6’4”, 255, Defensive Line

(Northland CC/Coffeyville CC/ Stephenson/ Lawrenceville, GA)

Coach Cochran – “Xavier is a playmaker, period.”

Xavier will provide some serious pressure off the edge to QBs. In 2008 while at Northland CC, he recorded 10 sacks.  He also comes from one of the top high school program in the Atlanta area.

 

Reggie Jennings

6’0”, 185, Defensive Back

(Nazareth Academy/ Westchester, IL)

Coach Cochran - “Reggie is a very intelligent player that makes plays all over the field.  He is a great addition to our secondary.”

Reggie was a team captain and an All-Conference DB for his program at Nazareth Academy.  He finished second on his team in tackles and tackles for loss.

 

 

 Aaron Johnson

6’5”, 225, Defensive Line

(Fayetteville HS/ Fayetteville, AR)

Coach Cochran - “Aaron provides great size and quickness off the edge, and is also a great student.”

Aaron was a big-time force up front for his high school program.  He led his team in tackles for loss and will be a leader in our program.  Aaron also was an All-Academic and an All-Conference performer at Fayetteville HS.

 

Mason Keller

5’10”, 180, Quarterback

(Highlands HS/ Salt Lake City, UT)

Coach Cochran - “Mason has a great knowledge of our offense and has led one of the top programs in Utah high school football.”

Mason was a team captain and true leader while at Highlands HS.  He was First-Team All-Conference and Second-Team All-State, while passing for 1,421 and 15 TDs.  Keller also rushed for 852 yards and seven TDs.  He will be joined by his high school teammate WR Andre Coleman.

 

Marquis Keys

6’3” 215, Linebacker

(Pattonville HS/ St. Louis, MO)

Coach Cochran - “Marquis is blessed with great size and is a pure leader on the football field. He has great size and ability.”

Marquis was an All Conference performer that his team in tackles with 95 and tackles for loss with 10.

 

Norman Leyba

6’3”, 255, Offensive Line

(Franklin HS/ El Paso, TX)

Coach Cochran - Norman is a very athletic offensive lineman that will fit in perfectly with our offense.”

Norman was an All-Conference and All-District performer and was a major leader on his high school team his senior year.  He joins his former teammate Juan Barriga, who is currently a freshman OL at LU.

 

David McCallop

5’9”, 185, Running Back

(Canyon Creek Christian Academy/ Allen, TX)

Coach Cochran - “David has great vision to go along with his quickness, he has also won a state championship; he is a winner.”

In 2009, David was a First-Team All-District DB, as well as a Second-Team All-District RB.  He led his team to the State Championships in 08 and 09.  David was also selected to play in the Texas All-Star game.  McCallop was voted Canyon Creek Christian Academy Offensive MVP at the Mizzou Football Camp in 08.  

Tim McShane

6’2”, 210, Running Back

(Hillcrest HS/ Springfield, MO)

 Coach Cochran - “Tim is a powerful runner that will be a big time player for us.”

Tim was the Linebacker of the Year as a senior.  He was also First-Team All-Conference and a Second-Team All-District performer.  In Tim’s junior season, he was a Second-Team All- Conference selection.

 

William Moore

6’3”, 285, Offensive Line

(Whitehaven HS/ Memphis, TN)

Coach Cochran – “William is an electrifying offensive lineman that will add size and depth to the offensive line.”

William was a three-year starter for three, 10-win playoff teams that averaged 200-plus yards a game.  He was invited to the U.S. Army National Combine as a sophomore, and is a weight room junkie.

 

Robert Redmond

5’11”, 165, Quarterback

(Mitchell HS/ Memphis, TN)

Coach Cochran – “Robert is a tenacious QB that has the ability to run and pass. We are very excited to sign the top rated QB out of the Memphis,TN area.”

Robert is an All-State and All-District QB. He passed for 3,039 yards as a senior and tallied 41 TD passes, while also rushing for 10 TDs.  Redmond has passed for 5,750 yards in his career with 67 total passing TDs.

 

Shannon Rogers

5’11”, 220, Linebacker

(Brother Rice HS/ Chicago, IL)

Coach Cochran – “Shannon is a complete LB that can play both inside and out.  He also comes from a winning program.”

Shannon brings a big-time program mentality to LU.  He was a leader and All-Conference performer on one for the best programs in the city of Chicago.  He played both inside and outside LB for his team as well as leading his team in tackles and tackles for loss

 

Chris Shelly

5’11”, 240, Linebacker

(Iowa Western CC/ North HS/ Omaha, NE)

Coach Cochran –“Chris is a throwback type of LB.  He brings a big stick when he hits you.”

Chris is a First-Team All-Region and Second-Team All-Conference JUCO LB.  Chris finished the season with 55 tackles and 6 tackles for loss in six games.  He was an All-State performer during his junior and senior seasons in high school.

 

Joseph “Jo-Jo” Snell

5’9”, 185, Running Back

(Moss Point HS/ Moss Point, MS)

Coach Cochran – “Jo-Jo possesses the kind of speed that can take it to the house on any play. He is that explosive player we lacked last season.”

Jo-Jo is a three-year letter winner in both football and baseball, while also collecting two letters in track.  He is an honorable mention All-State running back.  Snell rushed for 1,456 yards with 17 TDs, averaging 6.8 yards per carry.  As a kick returner, he averaged 22.7 yards per return.  He was also a state finalists in the 100 in track as a junior.  

 

Douglas Spacht

6’3”, 285, Offensive Line

(Fresno State Univ/ Long Beach Poly HS/ Long Beach, CA)

Coach Cochran – “Douglas is a Big-Time Division I player that will bring a winning attitude to LU.  He also played for one of the top high school programs in the country.”

Douglas is currently enrolled at LU.  He was ranked a three-star prospect and the No. 2 center prospect in the nation coming out of high school by Scout.com.  He was a two-time All-League and All-State performer in high school.  He was also a member of four state championships while in high school.  At Fresno State, he played in three games in 2009, starting vs. San Jose State. 

 

 

AJ Springer

6’0”, 185, Quarterback

(Chaffey CC/ AB Miller HS/ Fontana, CA)

Coach Cochran – “I am very excited about signing AJ Springer. AJ brings experience and the uncanny ability to make plays.  We look for him to make an immediate impact in our program.”

Springer put up big numbers in the JUCO rankings, passing for 2,220 yards with 20 TDs and rushing for 775 yards and 12 TDs.  During Springer’s senior year in high school, he passed for 2,226 yards and 21 TDs, while rushing for 1,738 yards and 24 TDs. 

 

Aaron Stadler

6’1”, 255, Defensive Line

(Buffalo HS/ Buffalo, MO)

Coach Cochran – “Aaron is a very hard worker and will bring a physical presence to the defensive line.”

Aaron was a Second-Team All-Conference and All-District defense tackle in 2009. He was honorable mention All-District as a junior.

 

Michael Strickland

6’2”, 170, Defensive Back

(Douglass HS/ Memphis, TN)

Coach Cochran – “Michael is a big corner that will be able to lock up with the big WR that we will face.”

Michael was First-Team All-League and All-District as a senior.  He recorded 50 tackles and 6 INTs during his final season in high school.

 

Maurice Woodard

5’9”, 170, Running Back

(Hutchinson CC/ Raytown South HS/ Kansas City, MO)

Coach Cochran – “Maurice is a dual threat RB/WR that has the speed to take it the distance. He is another homerun threat that we lacked this past season.”

Maurice is currently enrolled at LU.  While attending Hutchinson CC, Woodard played defensive back. In high school, he was a First-Team All-Conference and All-District selection.  Mo was also a member of the Missouri state champion 4X100-meter relay team as a senior.

Lincoln will be returning to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association in the fall of 2010 after an 11-year absence

that the men's basketball team claimed four Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association conference championships (1972, 75, 77, 81)

8 time Pro Bowler Lemar Parrish, played football at Lincoln University.

Lincoln University competes in the Heartland Conference and the Great Lakes Football Conference.
Lincoln University was founded in 1866 by the men of the 62nd and 65th United States Colored Infantries.
Running Back Leo Lewis, who was nicknamed the Lincoln Locomotive and the Minnesota Express for the Vikings, holds the school records for touchdowns in a season with 22.
