Hackett, Relay Team Claim Titles at Indiana Relays

BLOOMINGTON, IN. – Semoy Hackett and the Lincoln University women’s track and field relay team took home titles, as several others finished in the top three on the men’s side Saturday afternoon at the Indiana Relays inside Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse.
On the women’s side, Hackett ran away with first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.46 seconds, as teammates Tia Rolle (7.67) and Jhanell Brown (7.75) finished in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Racquel Anderson placed third in the long jump with a jump of 5.61 meters, as Miami of Ohio’s Nicki Mitchell out-jumped everyone with a jump of 5.70 meters. Anderson also finished strong in the triple jump grabbing a distance of 11.77 meters, which placed her second overall, as Toledo’s Alexandra Aflcari took the top spot with 12.02 meters.
A pair of Blue Tigers showed up in the 200-meter dash (seeded) in the top-three, with Nyoka Cole coming across the first in the group placing second with a time of 24.79 seconds, as Mississippi State’s Crystal Wilson finished first with a time of 24.78 seconds. Marcia Woolery came in right behind Cole in second with a time of 24.88 seconds. While in the 200-meter dash invitational, Hackett once again came across in first with a time of 24.01 seconds, with teammate Janika Martell finished a shade behind Hackett in second with a time of 24.49 seconds.
Cole also came through in the top-three of the 400-meter dash invitational, placing third with a time of 56.13 seconds, with Notre Dame’s Joanna Schultz taking first with a time of 55.72 seconds.
The relay team of Michelle Cumberbatch, Yanique Haye, Cole and Keniesha Jones took the title in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:43.21, just a shade better than Mississippi State’s relay team that came across with a time of 3:43.59.
On the men’s side, Gerald Bascoe got things started in the long jump invitational placing second with a jump of 7.17 meters, as Notre Dame’s Eric Quick snagged first with a jump of 7.47 meters.
Kimour Bruce remained in second through the preliminaries, semi-finals and in the final run of the 60-meter dash, coming across with a time of 6.75 seconds, nearly two-tenths of a second behind Ryan Shields.
Steve Banton just missed the top-three in the 200-meter dash (seeded) with a fourth-place finish with a time of 22.28 seconds. In the 200-meter dash invitational, Gavin Terrelonge also just missed a top-three result placing fourth with a time of 21.81 seconds.
Banton repeated his second-place finish in the 400-meter dash invitational with a time of 49.15 seconds, as Sean Wright came across first with a time of 48.52 seconds. Anthony Celestin also had a strong result in the 400, as he finished fourth with a time of 49.40 seconds.
Concluding the very successful afternoon for the Blue Tigers was the 4x400-meter relay team that came across second (Dwain Bryden, Sabiel Anderson, Banton and Rupert Smith) with a time of 3:16.52, as host Indiana just edged Lincoln for first with a time of 3:16.13.
Lincoln will return to action this coming Friday, Feb. 5 when they will compete at the Findlay Open in Findlay, OH.
