JEFFERSON CITY, MO. – Senior Ashley Norris and sophomore Quenita Washington teamed up for 50 points to lead the Lincoln University women’s basketball team to an 82-67 victory over Maryville Wednesday night at Jason Gym.

Maryville (0-1) stayed with the Blue Tigers (1-1) through most of the first half, as Lincoln looked to break it open at the 13:54 mark following a jumper by Norris to expand the lead to five at 16-11. The Saints answered back and came back to take the lead just over a minute later as Kate Childs converted a three-point play to make it 20-18 Maryville.

After tying the score up at 26, Lincoln began to make their move. Senior Liere Dancy broke loose and drilled a three-pointer to start the run, Washington added a jumper in the paint and after Washington made another jumper and a three-point basket, the Blue Tigers suddenly had a 10-point lead at 36-26 with 5:59 to play in the first half. The Blue Tigers kept the lead around 10 and went into the break up by seven, 48-41.

The Saints would open the second half with a jumper to cut the lead down to five and that would be as close as Maryville would get the rest of the game. A jumper in the paint by Norris at the 8:19 mark gave the Blue Tigers’ their largest lead of the night at 16, 68-52.

Norris had yet another stellar game, leading all scorers for the second straight game, tallying 26 against the Saints, while adding six rebounds and two steals. Washington also had a big game, posting 24 points, five rebounds, one assists and seven steals. Senior Stacey Smith led the team in rebounds with nine, while adding seven points, three assists and one steal. The Blue Tigers as a team shot over 50 percent, going 32-for-57 (56%), while also making over 50 percent from behind the arc, going 6-for-11 (55%).

Micah Stevens led the way for the Saints, racking up 14 points, three assists and one rebound. Courtney Pederson and Alex Fowler each tallied double-digits in scoring, with Pederson adding 12 and Fowler with 11.

Lincoln will return to action next Tuesday night, November 24 on the road at Harris-Stowe State University (MO) with game time set for 5:30 p.m. CST.
