TIFFIN, OH. – After nearly pulling the upset against Mississippi Valley State, sophomore defensive back Justin Hayes (5-9, 175, West Helena, AR) was rewarded for his efforts, taking home Great Lakes Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for the final week of the season.
Hayes had a good all-around defensive game in a 16-6 loss to Mississippi Valley State. Hayes had eight tackles with six solo stops, two tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and two sacks.
For the season, Hayes finished sixth on the team in total tackles with 38.5, with 10 coming as solo stops. Hayes also added nine tackles for loss, two sacks, two interceptions and one forced fumble.
Hayes’ honor comes as the second time a Blue Tiger was named Player of the Week, the first coming back during week seven of the season when senior linebacker Clourse Hardy was named Defensive Player of the Week.
