Fluellen Headlines 11 Blue Tigers on GLFC All-Conference Teams

Freshman defensive back O'Hara Fluellen was named GLFC Defensive Back of the Year.

TIFFIN, OH. – Eleven Lincoln University football players landed on the Great Lakes Football All-Conference Teams as announced by the conference office Monday.

Headlining the team for the Blue Tigers was O’Hara Fluellen (6-0, 190, Fort Lauderdale, FL). The freshman defensive back was named the Defensive Back of the Year, as well as landing on the First-Team Defensive Team, after leading the conference in interceptions (6). Fluellen, for the season, posted 34.5 tackles, 31 solo stops, three tackles for loss, six pass breakups and one forced fumble, while playing in every game this season. In addition, Fluellen was also named to the Second-Team Return Specialist squad, as the speedy, shifty return man ran 23 kickoffs back for 608 yards, with a long of 64.  

Two other Blue Tigers joined Fluellen on the first-team selections, including sophomore offensive lineman Allen Grant and sophomore linebacker Devin Mack. Grant (6-1, 285, Indianapolis, IN) played every game along the Lincoln offensive line, helping to power a rushing attack that tallied 1,361 yards on the season. Mack (5-10, 220, Detroit, MI) powered the Blue Tiger defense, leading the team in tackles with 54.5, with 43 coming as solo stops, 6.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, four pass breakups, one quarterback hurry and one fumble recovery while playing in all 11 games.

Six Blue Tigers were named to the second-team, with four landing on the defensive team. Freshman running back Andre Young (5-11, 205, Baltimore, MD) did just about everything out of the backfield for the Blue Tigers in his first season, as he led the team in rushing yards with 414 on 137 carries, while also scoring a touchdown. Sophomore offensive lineman Lamont Brown (6-1, 275, St. Louis, MO) played in 10 games at center for Lincoln, helping led the rushing attack throughout the year. Two defensive linemen found their names on the Second-Team Defensive squad, in junior Kayode Dawatola and freshman Carlie Williams. Dawatola (6-3, 245, Chicago, IL) tallied 24.5 tackles, 19 solo stops, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one pass breakup and one fumble recovery. Williams (6-3, 235, Waynesville, MO) wasn’t too far behind Dawatola, tallying 24 tackles, 14 solo stops, 5.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, one pass breakup, one quarterback hurry and one forced fumble, while playing in every game. Senior linebacker Clourse Hardy and junior defensive back Demarkis Smith rounded out the Blue Tigers’ on the Second-Team Defensive squad. Hardy (5-10, 225, Oakland, CA) was named GLFC Defensive Player of the Week back during week seven, and finished third on the team in tackles with 44.5, with 34 solo stops, 5.5 tackles for loss, one interception, two quarterback hurries, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble, while starting in every game at linebacker. Smith (6-0, 205, Flint, MI) finished second on the team in tackles with 54, 42 solo stops, 1.5 tackles for loss, three pass breakups and one blocked kick, while also playing in every game this year.

Last, but no least, mister do-everything for the Blue Tigers, junior Josh Goffigan (6-1, 210, Myrtle Beach, SC) landed on the Honorable Mention Offensive Team for both quarterback and wide receiver. Goffigan began the season as a wide receiver, but moved to quarterback and guided the Blue Tigers the rest of the campaign. Goffigan completed 11-of-46 passes for one touchdown and six interceptions, while throwing for 167 yards. He finished second on the team in rushing carries with 135, third on the team in total yards with 208, while leading the team with four rushing touchdowns. In addition, Goffigan led the team in receiving, amassing 181 yards on 12 receptions and one touchdown. Goffigan also contributed in the return game, fielding two punt returns for three yards in a game against Missouri S&T. Junior defensive back Ammar Dyson (6-0, 175, Landover, MD) also landed on the Honorable Mention Defensive Team. Dyson finished fifth on the team in tackles with 39.5, 42 solo stops, 1.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, 10 pass breakups and one blocked kick, while playing every game for Lincoln.

Okine Codlyn
Women's Track and Field

Okine Codlyn (Sr., Kingston, St. Andrew, Jamaica) took home the pentathlon overall title this past Friday at the Alumni Classic on the campus of Illinois College. Codlyn took first in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.41 seconds, first in the long jump with a jump of 5.60m, tied for first with teammate Sheri Kaye Campbell in the high jump and then completed the pentathlon with a first place in the shot put with a throw of 9.91m to take the overall title with 3,428 points.

Codlyn also came close in the long jump outside of the pentathlon, placing second with a jump of 5.22m, while teammate Racquel Anderson won the event with a jump of 5.54m.

Chris Pfau
Baseball
Chris Pfau (LHP, So., Columbia, MO) was named Heartland Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday for his performance this past weekend against Texas A&M International.

dominated on the mound in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday, limiting Texas A&M International to just six hits in recording the complete game shutout, while also striking out six and walking one. The sophomore left-hander also delivered at the plate, coming through with an RBI groundout in the third inning for the only run scored in Lincoln’s 1-0 victory. 

Pfau also started the other three games in the series in centerfield and combined with his pitching performance, posted eight putouts, two assists and no errors as the Blue Tigers took three of four from the Dustdevils.
 

So far on the season, Pfau has played in all 11 games, starting three on the mound and playing in the other eight games at centerfield and at designated hitter.  The Blue Tiger leadoff man holds a .286 batting average, 10 hits, two RBI and three stolen bases, while compiling 19.1 innings pitched, a 2.79 ERA, 17 strikeouts and six walks to record a 1-1 mark on the bump.
